The first Asparagus Magazine article was published in February 2018. In the two years that have followed, we've commissioned more than 80 stories, published work by more than 50 contributors, and put out two print issues. There's a lot to celebrate!
So we're throwing a party. And we're thrilled to be hosting it at the zero-waste grocery that was the subject of that very first article back in 2018. Join us for festivites in honour of our 2nd birthday and our 2nd print issue, at Nada (675 E Broadway, at Fraser) on Saturday, February 22, from 8:30 to 10:30 pm.
- Print magazine subscribers get in free (but please do reserve your free ticket so we can track attendance numbers—we will cross-reference with our subscriber list)
- Non-subscriber tickets cost $11. In addition to party admission, the cost of a paid ticket includes a copy of the Winter/Spring 2020 issue, a donation to Nada's current 1% for the Planet partner, plus less interesting things like taxes and processing fees
- Beverages by donation. Bring some cash!
In addition to celebrating past accomplishments, we'll be fundraising for future endeavours with a small silent auction of artwork. Including the arts in our conversations about sustainability has been a Gus value since day one, and we're touched that a number of our artist friends have donated pieces for this fundraiser. So, invite all your visual-art-loving friends, and come prepared to bid on works by Erin Flegg (our art director), Lynna Goldhar Smith, David Hovan, Rae Maté, and Susan Taylor.
Come meet the folks behind the magazine and some of your fellow readers for an evening of bright, green conversation, birthday cake, art for a cause, and possibly a party game or two. (Pin the Stalk on the Asparagus, anyone?)
